Faren Blacknall is in a spot of trouble when you first encounter him: he's currently residing in the Trademeet jail. He assures you that it's nothing he can't handle - and, sure enough, sooner or later you will be able to recruit him to your party if you choose. He is in the middle of a break from adventuring, but since he's the first to admit that Trademeet isn't the most exciting of places he's eager to get back on the road. Faren has made various contacts in his time, both friendly and hostile, and you shouldn't be surprised if some of them come out of the woodwork!
Despite his wide travels, Faren finds it difficult to relate to people who are very different from him or who are outside his realm of experience. Like many characters he feels uncomfortable around the Drow, but he is just as out of his depth in Suldanessellar. Though he can find common ground with non-humans, it may be more difficult to connect with him on a romantic level if you are not human.
Nevertheless, he is not shy about showing that he is attracted to the main character. He will romance human, half-elven, elven and half-orc women and men, particularly liking characters who are independent and who don't take themselves too seriously - though that doesn't mean that he has no patience for more emotional characters. Unlike many other romanceable NPCs, he does not go after the PC with love on his mind – though his feelings will grow over time if you treat him with respect.
Faren will make friends with a PC he is not attracted to. If you want to, he will also break up amicably with the PC if the romance is in its early - or even in its middle - stages.
Overall, if you want a laidback romantic interest, a character who is friendly without being clingy, and a thief who can take care of himself in a fight, then Faren will be good for you!
